I loved video games ever since i was able to talk. I was fascinated by shimmering colors, fast action and the fact that I could control what’s happening on the screen. Years passed and my hobby only grew stronger. At one point, it even evolved into other interests. For many people, however, the games are a meaningless time killers. Who’s right? I don’t know, but I’d like to present my point of view.
Should games be story-focused or competitive?
There are many types of computer games. I would distinguish two main ones here: role-playing games and competitive games. Even though both types are equally important, I can understand why the latter is taken less seriously. The lack of a plot and a focus on quick action discourage a large number of people from this type of fun. On the other side of the coin, we have games with a storyline that doesn’t differ too much from the movies.
However, not every player appreciates role-playing games, as not everyone is looking for entertainment that requires a lot of free time. Popular titles such as The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age take up to hundreds of hours to complete. We are talking about the main thread itself, because add-ons and extensions can extend this time several times.
Some productions try to connect both of these worlds, while offering something for one player as well as multiplayer modes. However, this solution does not always end well, as game developers may not have enough time and money to refine both modes. Much depends on the involvement of not only the developers, but also the game’s community and publishers. Many developers only follow the most popular trends, which usually results in creating boring, uninspired games.
What stands in the way of enjoying videogames?
The need to have an appropriate device can be a big obstacle. This is a significant barrier, because the right console or computer can cost a lot. However, even apart from this expense, a large part of the games are not accessible to new users. Hardly any games assume that the player is just starting his adventure with this medium. This can result in a feeling of being overwhelmed by the numerous interfaces, options, and mechanics.
Luckily for new gamers, an increasing number of computer game developers are focusing on accesibility issues. Thanks to this, we can observe a large number of in-game tips. Personally, I think that game should teach through gameplay and not by pointing it’s finger at everything. An example of such titles are games from Nintendo. Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and other series of games from this Japanese publisher perfectly combine the simplicity of learning the basics with the depth of the gameplay. This makes them extremely fun to play, yet suitable for shorter gaming sessions.
What about mobile games?
It’s hard to say at least one good word about mobile games. They combine the worst features of all available productions, while being shallow and bland, and treating the player like an idiot. There are exceptions to this rule, but they are rare. Such better games are usually paid, so it is worth paying a few pennies when choosing a mobile game.
I think the reason for this is the need to use a touch screen. As a result, the games need to be simplified in some way so that players can enjoy the gameplay. Unfortunately, nothing justifies the disgusting monetization of most free phone games. Micropayments, subscriptions, and advertising are all fun-ruining things for profit. Better to spend your money once and enjoy the game unhindered for the rest of your life.
So damn expensive…
I think that most of gamers can agree, that games can be insanely expensive. New releases often cost around $ 60, but the price can go up to even to $ 100. Much depends on the content of the game itself and the publisher’s pricing. So a wise strategy is to wait for the price to drop in order to purchase your dream game for half or even a quarter of the price. A similar situation occurs with devices. It is worth waiting a few months to buy the equipment much cheaper. Up to several hundred dollars can be saved in this way.
What if someone doesn’t want to wait? Unfortunately, then you will have to pay the full price or buy the game second-hand. However, there is some risk involved in doing so, as the equipment without warranty may be damaged. There are stores that specialize in selling used games and consoles. Some of them even offer a warranty for used equipment. This could be a good and cheap alternative that is worth considering. In the age of online shopping, you don’t even have to leave your home to buy a console or a game! All this thanks to modern technology that makes our lives easier.
